Position Profile:
Royal Perth Hospital is the major tertiary trauma centre for the city of Perth, Western Australia. It also performs a significant amount of elective plastic surgery work. Our Plastic Surgery Department is seeking one suitably qualified Plastic Surgery Fellow to undertake an interesting, broad and unique position. The fellowship is designed for plastic surgeons who wish to undertake further training to expand their skill set primarily in the fields of trauma, microsurgery and with a special interest in breast reconstruction. It offers an opportunity to be involved in both theatre and outpatient plastic surgery work under consultant supervision, as well as in an independent capacity.
The fellowship is designed for surgeons with substantial pre-fellowship registrar experience, with the aim of advanced surgical skill development. As such it is a senior position that does require the ability to function independently with indirect supervision, however, direct supervision with senior consultant staff on site is also present.
The Royal Perth Hospital Plastic Surgery unit undertakes the whole spectrum of reconstructive surgery including facial, skin, breast, lower limb, head and neck surgery as well as a large volume of hand and wrist surgery. This fellowship will carry a significant component of breast reconstruction. Our unit also provides cover for the State Trauma Unit, which is part of the Hospital, with wide exposure to complex upper and lower limb trauma. There are multiple opportunities for involvement in microsurgical free flap reconstruction, both elective and acute.
Area Profile:
Royal Perth Hospital (RPH) is Perth’s inner city, tertiary adult hospital and part of the Royal Perth Bentley Group. Home to the State Major Adult Trauma Service, RPH offers tertiary-level emergency medicine, mental health, complex and elective surgical care, and specialist medical services.
