Registrar – Service – Intensive Care

Fixed Term Full Time and Fixed Term Part Time appointments will be available for 6-12 months with the possibility of extension(s).

Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments may be made when similar vacancies occur. Appointments may be made from this pool until 30/10/2024.


Position Profile: 
The Registrar – Service – Intensive Care assesses all referrals to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) deciding on suitability for admission, notifies the Intensive Care Specialist of admission and discusses management, initiates appropriate management, and arranges for investigations to be carried out. In addition, the Service Registrar will carry out procedures within capabilities after discussion with the Duty Intensive Care Specialist and document procedures in the case notes. These procedures may include intubation, central line, and arterial line placement. In addition, the Service Registrar will participate in peer review, quality improvement and clinical governance activities/seminars.

Applicants will be considered for various positions across the Metropolitan Health Service participating in the Inter-Hospital Rotating Scheme (IHRS) including: Royal Perth Hospital RPH); Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH); and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH). As part of rotation arrangements applicants may also be allocated to primary health sites.

Area Profiles:
Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH)
 is located at the Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre 4km from Perth city centre, SCGH provides a comprehensive range of clinical service including trauma, emergency and critical care, orthopaedics, general medicine, general surgery and cardiac care. It is home to WA's only comprehensive cancer centre - the largest cancer treatment centre in the State - and is the State's principal hospital for neurosurgery and liver transplants.

Royal Perth Hospital (RPH) Wellington Street Campus (RPH) is a 450-bed tertiary hospital focused on providing a range of complex and elective surgeries for adults. Home to the State major adult trauma centre, RPH offers tertiary-level emergency medicine, mental health and specialist medical services. It is also a premier teaching hospital and contribute to innovation and excellence in medical research and patient care.

Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH) is a 783-bed tertiary hospital offering a range of health services including the State rehabilitation service, a comprehensive cancer centre, purpose-built mental health unit, maternity, paediatric and neonatal services, and the State adult burns service. FSH also delivers specialised services such as heart and lung transplantations and hyperbaric medicine.
