This is a Recruitment Pool for Fixed Term Part-Time appointments for 6 or 12 months with the possibility of extension(s).

Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments may be made when similar vacancies occur. Appointments may be made from this pool until 01/11/2024.

Appointments for this position will not commence until 2025.


Position Profile:
SCGOPHCG invites applications for 4 part-time positions (0.5FTE) as Education Registrars, in the fields of Surgery, Medicine, Emergency and Acute Care.

  • The Surgical position will be offered to applicants who have been offered Service Registrar position in Surgery as part of the state-wide application process and will consist of two 6-month positions combining Education (0.5 FTE) with service delivery (0.5 FTE).
    • Successful candidates will work 2-3 days a week with the medical education team and work the remaining days with one of the four subspecialty general surgical units (upper GI, colorectal, breast and transplant).  
  • The Medicine position is a standalone 0.5 FTE position, and the successful candidates can opt to work part-time, or we will assist in finding a suitable research or clinical position. Applicants applying for this position will have passed the written and clinical RACP exams.
  • The Emergency position will be combined with 0.5 FTE clinical position in ED.
  • The Acute Care position is a standalone 0.5 FTE position suitable for a Registrar with an interest in critical/acute care specialties. The successful candidates can opt to work part-time or combine this with a clinical registrar position in SCGOPHCG.

The Education Registrar positions sit within a growing Medical Education Unit with a Team of clinicians and Medical Education Officers, supporting innovation in education from medical students through to Consultants. We work closely with the newly opened state of the art Simulation Centre and applicants will gain skills in a range of teaching formats including simulation.

Teaching will take place on a hospital wide basis as well as within the department of your chosen discipline. You will also be actively engaged in learning the principles and application of adult learning techniques in medical education. The Education Registrar position will provide benefits for the incumbent trainee, the department, the hospital, and those they teach.

It is home to WA's only comprehensive cancer centre - the largest cancer treatment centre in the State - and is the State's principal hospital for neurosurgery and liver transplants.
