Salary: South of the 26th parallel:

Trainee Psychiatrist Year 1-7 $155,451 to $208,105 p.a.

(Inclusive of base salary $129,574 to $177,010pa, professional development $10,472p.a. and 11.5% superannuation. Generous accommodation & relocation subsidies also available)

 WA Country Health Service (WACHS) is seeking applicants to commence Psychiatry training with the Rural Psychiatry Training WA (RPTWA) program in Albany, Bunbury and Geraldton.

This intake is for Full time or Part Time Fixed Term appointments for eligible applicants seeking to commence Stage 1 training in the RANZCP Psychiatry Fellowship program.

Length of training contracts, appointments for 5 years, with the possibility of extension(s).

This intake is for Stage 1 training entry at three of the RPTWA Comprehensive Training Hubs:

  • 1 position for RANZCP Stage 1 entry in Albany, Great Southern Region
  • 1 position for RANZCP Stage 1 entry in Geraldton, Midwest Region
  • 2 positions for RANZCP Stage 1 entry in Bunbury, South West Region

There is also the potential of 1 position for RANZCP Stage 1 entry in Broome, Kimberley Region. Applicants are requested to include this in your preferences if interested, however this position will not be confirmed until later in 2024. Any trainee allocated north of the 26th parallel will receive the below salary range. Registrar Year 3 $178,561 then HSMP Year 1-6 $267,117 to $335,273 p.a.

(Registrar 3 inclusive of base salary $149,673 p.a. professional development allowance $10,472 p.a. HSMP Year 1-6 inclusive of base salary $208,720 to $270,122 p.a. professional development allowance $31,926 p.a. All inclusive of 11.5% employer contributed superannuation.

The successful applicants will work as an integral part of the multidisciplinary and medical teams. Under the supervision of a Consultant Psychiatrist, this position provides assessment and management for clients requiring specialist psychiatric care. The successful applicant will be committing to a length of training contract (up to five years) with WACHS.

The Rural Psychiatry Training WA (RPTWA) program is overseen by the Western Australia Branch Training Committee, in accordance with the requirements for obtaining Fellowship of the Royal Australian New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP). The training program provides clinical and formal supervised training experiences in rural generalist psychiatry.

 

Essential Criteria

  • Commitment to a rural post in psychiatry.
  • Good interpersonal skills and high-level communication skills.
  • Two-year equivalent full time Medical Officer experience (PGY 2).
  • Eligibility for full registration with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency).
  • The ability to satisfy the Selection Panel of suitable academic record and employment history.


Desirable Criteria

  • Clinical competence in both General Medicine and Psychological Medicine.
  • Ability to use proficient problem-solving techniques, coping strategies and ability to tolerate and deal effectively with stressful situations.
  • “C” Class Driver’s Licence.
  • Rural background and/or rural clinical experience
  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
