Position Summary:

The IMG Pathway to registration project is a WA government-funded initiative that provides opportunity for IMGs who are Australian citizens or permanent residents currently living in WA and not currently registered to work as a medical practitioner in Australia, to obtain registration and employment in WA.  

Applications are invited from eligible applicants to participate in a 12- month Workplace-based Assessment (WBA) program at Peel Health Campus.  Successful applicants will be offered employment as a Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Year 1 and supported to undertake the AMC-accredited WBA program at the respective hospital. Expected commencement date will be August 2025.

The WBA is a structured assessment program for IMGs undertaking the Australian Medical Council (AMC) Standard Pathway as an alternative to the AMC Clinical Examination. The program is overseen by the AMC Board of Examiners. Successful candidates are awarded the AMC certificate which is a requirement to apply for general registration with the Medical Board of Australia (MBA).

Eligibility to Apply:

To be considered for the IMG Pathway to Registration – WBA RMO position, you must:

  1. Have completed a minimum six week observership program within a Western Australian (WA) hospital within the past 2 years.
  2. Have completed a medical degree and internship from an overseas training institution recognised by the AMC (external link).
  3. Have never been registered with the Medical Board of Australia.
  4. Currently live in WA and have Australian citizenship or permanent residency.
  5. Have passed the AMC Computer Adaptive Test Multiple Choice Questionnaire (AMC CAT MCQ) examination.
  6. Have met the English Language Skills registration standard of the Medical Board of Australia.

 

NOTE: Applications that do not meet the above eligibility criteria will be considered ineligible and will not progress further.

 

Essential Selection Criteria:

Please individually address each of the following essential selection criteria in a cover letter in a Word document or similar and attach to your application.

  1. Eligible for registration by the Medical Board of Australia/Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  2. Evidence of successful completion of a minimum 6-week observership program within a WA hospital setting within the past 2 years.
  3. Recency of experience as a medical practitioner within a hospital setting across one or more disciplines of medicine, surgery, emergency medicine, paediatrics, women’s health and mental health.
  4. Demonstrated communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and work appropriately with patients, their families and an inter-professional health care team(s).
  5. Demonstrated organisational and time management skills to provide safe, timely patient centred care.
  6. Demonstrated participation in continuing medical education activities to maintain and upgrade knowledge and skills.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  8. Commitment to safety and quality in WA healthcare through awareness of safe clinical practice within own limitations, and continuous improvement of patient outcomes.

  2. Detailed curriculum vitae which demonstrates your experience and how you are able to meet the position requirements.
  3. Evidence of completion of a minimum six week observership program within a Western Australian (WA) hospital within the past 2 years.
  4. Evidence of both your WA residential address and your citizenship or permanent residency.
  5. Evidence of completion of AMC CAT MCQ examination.
  6. Evidence demonstrating that you meet the Medical Board’s English Language skills registration standard (external link).
  7. Evidence of your medical degree and internship from an overseas training institution recognised by the AMC (external link).

Please Note: A candidate who accepts a place in the WBA program cannot apply for the AMC Clinical Exam during the 12 month period of the WBA program. If a candidate is already enrolled in the AMC Clinical Exam for the year of WBA commencement, they will need to withdraw from the exam booking to be accepted into the WBA program for that year.

Successful applicants will be required to provide evidence of the following:

  • Western Australian Working with Children (WWC) Check. For further information please refer to the WWC website.
  • Criminal Record Screening Check.
  • 100 Point Identification Check.
  • Health Assessment.
