Position Profile

The Child and Adolescent Health Service (CAHS) is seeking a dedicated and experienced medical professional with a passion for education, mentorship, and leadership to join our team as the Director Paediatric education – Advanced  Training. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of paediatric healthcare in Western Australia.

• This role will be shared with the existing Director of Advanced Training (DAT).
• The Directors of Advanced training provide supervision, mentoring, advocacy and education to over 120 paediatric advanced trainees (AT). The DAT supports and supervises overseas trained doctors, advocates for paediatric advanced trainees at a local and national level through the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, develops and delivers education to the General Paediatric and sub-specialty AT’s in line with the RACP AT curriculums, facilitates leadership and communication courses for the ATs, supports recruitment and trainee progress through training, and provides pastoral care to advanced trainees.  
• The DATs support hospital departments with RACP accreditation, and provide education around RACP related issues (curriculum changes, trainee support pathway, supervisor professional development program). The DAT provide advocacy and support of trainees in difficulty.

You will work closely with the Director of Post Graduate Medical Education (PGME) to implement and enhance paediatric training across Western Australia and collaborate with your peers in sharing responsibilities such as supervision, career guidance, support for international medical graduates, research facilitation, and trainee wellbeing.

You will Lead, coordinate, and oversee the Advanced Training Program in General Paediatrics and Paediatric Subspecialties at CAHS, ensuring training program aligns with Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) curriculum standards, accreditation requirements, and hospital policies.

Key responsibilities include:

• Develop and deliver educational programs, including grand rounds, journal clubs, and simulations that influence and enhance the quality of paediatric medical training within our leading health service.
• Lead in upskilling and supporting training supervisors and supervise and mentor Advanced Trainees, ensuring comprehensive support and evaluation and adherence to RACP and hospital policies.
• Participate in trainee selection and allocation.
• Advocate for resources and infrastructure to enhance paediatric training.
• Drive quality improvement through program evaluation and supervisor development.
• Engage with national and local committees to advance training standards.

The ideal candidate will have strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to engage and collaborate with trainees, supervisors, and healthcare administrators and extensive experience in paediatric education and training.

A Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) is required for this role.
