The Metropolitan Community Residency Program (CRP) is a respected, competitive, and valuable training opportunity for Resident Medical Officers (RMOs) in Western Australia. Delivered in partnership with Silverchain, this program offers RMOs the chance to expand their clinical capabilities within a supported and intellectually stimulating community care environment.

This rotation is particularly suited to RMOs seeking to strengthen their clinical independence and decision-making skills while gaining insight into the delivery of palliative care in a metropolitan community setting. This is one of the only opportunities available to RMOs to experience community care in a metropolitan setting prior to making a vocational decision.

Program Overview

Eligible RMOs will complete a palliative care rotation with Silverchain while remaining contracted and salaried by their Primary Employing Health Service. The CRP term is available to RMOs who will, or plan to, hold a 2026 contract at the following hospitals:

  • Fiona Stanley Hospital
  • Royal Perth Hospital
  • Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital

Please note that while there is in-principle support for the continuation of the CRP in 2026, placements for Terms 3, 4 and 5 are contingent upon available funding.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Hold a 2026 RMO position at one of the participating hospitals
  • Hold general registration with the Medical Board of Australia
  • Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • Hold a valid C-class driver’s licence
  • Own a personal vehicle with comprehensive car insurance
  • Hold a current National Police Clearance (issued within the last 3 years)
  • Provide evidence of completion of Basic Life Support training (or higher)

Application Process

Interested candidates are required to submit the following via the ‘Supporting Documents’ section of their MedCareersWA application:

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Cover Letter (maximum one page) addressing the following:
    • A brief explanation of why you wish to undertake a metropolitan CRP placement
    • What skills and experiences you will bring to the metropolitan CRP placement
    • A statement confirming that you meet the following eligibility criteria:
      • Have a valid Australian driver’s license, own personal vehicle and comprehensive car insurance
      • Hold a current Police Clearance
      • Have completed Basic Life Support training

This placement offers a unique and formative experience that supports professional growth, clinical development, and informed career decision-making.

We encourage eligible RMOs to apply and take advantage of this rare opportunity to work in a leading community-based healthcare setting.

Additional Information – General Practice Pathway

RMOs with an interest in pursuing General Practice (GP) training are encouraged to explore the GP Hospital Training Pathway (GPHTP), which offers access to rotations aligned with GP training goals. Further information and the expression of interest process can be found at:
