The General Practice Community Residency Program (GP-CRP) is an innovative new pilot placement program for 2027 and a unique training opportunity for Resident Medical Officers (RMOs)currently working in Perth, Western Australia.
This term rotation is particularly suited to RMOs seeking to broaden their clinical experience, strengthen their independence and decision-making skills, and gain a deeper understanding of the role General Practice plays within the healthcare system.

- These placements will be based in accredited general practices across metropolitan Perth.
Program Overview
This unique term rotation allows RMOs to work in an accredited general practice while remaining employed by your Primary Employing Health Service.
Participating employing health services:
- Fiona Stanley Hospital → Rockingham
- Royal Perth Hospital → Gosnells
- Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital → Madeley
Placements are linked to the applicant's employing hospital and are at practices located in Rockingham, Gosnells or Madeley.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Hold a 2027 RMO position at one of the participating hospitals
- Have general registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
- Be a graduate of an Australian Medical School
Application Process
Interested candidates are required to submit the following via the ‘Supporting Documents’ section of their MedCareersWA application:

- Cover Letter (maximum one page) addressing the following:
- A brief explanation of why you wish to undertake a GP-CRP placement
- What skills and experiences you will bring to the GP-CRP placement
Additional Information
RMOs with an interest in pursuing General Practice (GP) training are encouraged to explore the GP Hospital Training Pathway (GPHTP), which offers access to rotations aligned with GP training goals. Further information regarding the GPHTP can be found at GP hospital training program
This program is Commonwealth funded through the Australian Primary Care Prevocational Program (APCPP), the GP-CRP provides RMOs with meaningful exposure to primary care, strengthens understanding of the relationship between community and hospital-based healthcare, and supports informed career decision-making.
