Conditions:
The full-time annual base salary rate for an intern is $93,590 to $122,740 plus $6,698 Professional Development Allowance (depending on the health site) and superannuation. Rates and allowances differ subject to the applicable location and industrial agreement i.e., the WA Health System – Medical Practitioners – AMA Industrial Agreement 2024, the Medical Practitioners Award 2020 (Joondalup Health Campus) or the St John of God Health Care – AMA WA – Medical Practitioners Enterprise Agreement 2023 (St John of God Midland Hospital).
Interns shall be appointed on a fixed-term, full-time contract with WA Health Service or Joondalup Health Campus for three years (subject to visa requirements). Interns at St John of God Midland Hospital will be offered a contract for two years (subject to visa requirements). Interns can preference the following as their Primary Employing Health Service:
- Fiona Stanley Hospital
- Joondalup Health Campus
- Royal Perth Hospital
- Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital
- St John of God Midland Hospital, or
- WA Country Health Service – (Albany Health Campus, Broome Health Campus, Bunbury Hospital or Geraldton Regional Hospital).

Eligibility to Apply:
To be considered for a 2027 WA intern position, applicants must:
- Hold a primary medical degree from either:
- an Australian Medical Council–accredited medical school, or
- a medical school in a competent authority country (as defined by Ahpra), provided the applicant holds Australian citizenship or permanent residency, or New Zealand citizenship.
- Not have commenced or completed an internship, nor been registered or worked as a medical practitioner, either in Australia or overseas.
- Possess a valid Intern Placement Number (IPN).
- Be registrable with the Medical Board of Australia. This includes meeting Medical Board of Australia’s English language skills registration standard at the time of application for a 2027 WA intern position.
- Be eligible to work in Australia.

Job Description:
WA Health Services and Joondalup Health Campus offer three-year contracts, and St John of God Health Care offer two years (subject to visa requirements).
To fulfil training requirements, metropolitan based interns can undertake rotations at a variety of metropolitan, rural, or remote sites (see Intern Application Guide for details).
Employment at WA Primary Employing Health Services provides successful applicants the opportunity to complete an accredited internship compliant with the general registration requirements of the Medical Board of Australia, as determined by the Australian Medical Council’s (AMC) National Framework for Prevocational (PGY1 and PGY2) Medical Training.
On successful completion of these PGY1 requirements, PGY1s (interns) will be eligible to apply for general registration via the Medical Board of Australia.
All term rotations are accredited by the Postgraduate Medical Council of Western Australia (PMCWA) against approved accreditation standards for intern training and include the above experience.

- Copy of AMC Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) exam results (if applicable – refer to the Intern Application Guide).
