This pool aims to fill current vacancies for permanent or fixed term appointments. 

 Employment types: Full Time, Part Time, and Sessional with the possibility of extension(s).  

Appointments from this pool may be made until 30/12/2027. 

Consultant Year 1-9: $412,161 - $523,436 per annum* 

Sessional Year 1- 9: $790.09 - $1,003.40* 

The above salary is as per WA Health System Medical Practitioners AMA Industrial Agreement 2024 (inclusive of base salary, 12% superannuation, and PD allowance). This is subject to the assessment of qualifications, clinical skills and years of practice.

About Wheatbelt Mental Health Services

Wheatbelt Mental Health Service delivers high-quality community mental health care including comprehensive assessment and treatment for people of all ages. Our clinical programs include Aboriginal Mental Health Program (All ages), Adult Mental Health Program (18-65 years), Child and Adolescent Mental Health Program (0-18 years), Seniors Mental Health Program (65+ years) and Youth Mental Health Program (15-24 years).

The Wheatbelt Mental Health Service is a team of Mental Health Professionals including Consultant Psychiatrist, Clinical Psychologists, Social Workers, Child and Adolescent Professionals. Aboriginal Workers and Community Mental Health Nurses.

About The Roles

We’re looking for passionate and experienced Consultant Psychiatrist in CAMHS and Adult Psychiatry to join our dynamic teams in Northam Hospital. You will be required to work occasionally across other Mental Health sites such as Narrogin, Merredin, and Gingin in Wheatbelt.

This is an opportunity to lead, innovate, and shape the future of mental health services for adults, children, adolescents, and youth.

You will:

  • Deliver high-quality clinical assessment and psychiatric treatment in a community-based setting.
  • Provide expert leadership, advice, and consultation to GPs, healthcare professionals, service providers, and carers across the region.
  • Drive the regional implementation of the Infant, Child, and Adolescent Taskforce recommendations, ensuring best practice care.
  • Chair CAMHS clinical reviews and uphold compliance with the Mental Health Act and relevant legislation.
  • Build strong partnerships with key stakeholders, including the Chief Psychiatrist and local GPs, to deliver seamless, coordinated care.

You’ll report to the Director of Clinical Services – Mental Health and collaborate with a team of consultant psychiatrists and registrars who value shared expertise and collective problem-solving.

The Successful Candidates Will:  

  • be eligible for registration by the Medical Board of Australia.
  • hold Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry (RANZCP). Certificate of Child Psychiatry (RANZCP) or approved equivalent.
  • be RANZCP trainee who are in their penultimate year of training and have completed all training requirements.
  • have substantial clinical experience in general adult, child, adolescent and youth mental health.
  • be willing to work across other Mental Health sites such as Narrogin, Merredin, and Gingin in Wheatbelt.
  • applicants from the United Kingdon (UK) or Ireland eligible for the Medical Board of Australia Expedited Specialist Pathway must:
    • Hold the MRCPsych (UK) as well as CCT/CCST
    • Have the AMC primary source verification
    • Intend to live and work in Australia permanently

About the Pool and Appointment

This is an active recruitment pool which will be assessed on a regular basis by the panel to fill both immediate vacant positions and future vacancies. Please note that after filling the current vacancies, all suitable applicants will be placed in the pool for future appointments. Appointments may be made from this pool until 30/12/2027.
