Director Clinical Training – Rural Paediatric Training Pathway

Renumeration: MP Consultant Year 1-9 $790.09 - $1003.40 per session, Pro Rata*

*Above renumeration is inclusive of base sessional rate, 12% superannuation and applicable allowance.

This vacancy is to fill a fixed-term, sessional appointment, with the possibility of extension(s).

 

This position is offered at 0.4 FTE, however, has the option for two 0.2 FTE job share split:

  • Pathway DCT (0.2 FTE) – focusing on pathway development, strategic oversight, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Education DCT (0.2 FTE) – focusing on education, supervision, and trainee support.

 

Shape the future of Rural Paediatrics in WA

WA Country Health Service (WACHS) is offering a unique opportunity for an experienced and forward-thinking Paediatric physician to take on the role of the Director of Clinical Training - Rural Paediatric Training Pathway.

About the Role

This exciting position is part of the WACHS Central Medical Education Unit and offers flexibility for work to be completed from the Perth-based Central Medical Education Unit or remotely across Western Australia. The successful candidate will lead a pioneering project to develop a rural-focused training pathway for paediatric trainees who are committed to future specialist practice in regional WA. Some travel to WACHS regions and training sites will be required.

Working alongside a dedicated project team, the Director will:

  • Build strong relationships with rural and metropolitan stakeholders
  • Identify rural rotations that meet Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians – Paediatrics & Child Health (FRACP – Paediatrics & Child Health) training requirements and community needs
  • Expand FRACP – Paediatrics & Child Health-accredited training sites across WACHS
  • Develop innovative education and supervision models
  • Support immersive and linked training pathways
  • Explore metropolitan in-reach opportunities for rural trainees

Collaboration is key in this role. You’ll work closely with WACHS Directors of Paediatric Training, vocational training pathway leads and Medical Education Registrars to design and deliver this transformative initiative.

To succeed, you’ll need:

  • A deep understanding of FRACP Paediatrics & Child Health accreditation and training requirements
  • A willingness to travel throughout rural WA, as required
  • A passion for shaping the next generation of paediatric specialists

The Successful Candidates Will Bring:

  1. Unconditional general and Specialist registration by the Medical Board of Australia
  2. Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians, with specialist registration as a Paediatrician.
  3. Extensive knowledge, clinical experience, and skills in the identified specialty area. 
  4. Current or relevant specialist experience in Australia.
  5. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, including reporting, negotiation and leadership skills.
  6. Commitment to rural medical education.
