DMO – Procedural (Obstetrics and Anaesthetics) -MP Year 1-3 -$550,858 - $602,976 rates as of 3 September 2025.
*The above salary is as per WA Health System Medical Practitioners AMA Industrial Agreement 2024 (inclusive of base salary, PD allowance and 12% superannuation). This is subject to the assessment of qualifications, clinical skills and years of practice.

About Carnarvon and Exmouth Health Campus
The Carnarvon Health Campus is a vital healthcare facility in Western Australia's Gascoyne region. The Health Campus offers 24/7 emergency and acute care, supported by around 12 beds across general ward. The hospital focuses more on acute care, diagnostics, allied health, and outpatient services, with visiting specialists covering areas like general surgery, general medicine, cardiology, urology, dermatology, ophthalmology, gynaecology. Antenatal and postnatal support is provided along with travel assistance for births at other centres. Carnarvon Hospital also supports number of outreach sites including Gascoyne Junction, Coral Bay, Burringurrah and Shark Bay nursing posts. These are either via road or air.
The Exmouth Health Service is a modern healthcare facility in the Gascoyne region with a total of nine beds - six for inpatient care and three for residential aged care. It features a 24/7 emergency department capable of handling urgent medical situations, including injuries and acute illnesses, with referral pathways to larger hospitals for complex cases. The hospital provides essential services such as general medical care, outpatient services, chronic disease management, community nursing, dental care and allied health. While it does not offer major surgeries, it supports primary care needs and offers telehealth and visiting specialist services based on local demand.
About the Roles
In this role of District Medical Officer, you will be a valued member of the team and will be responsible for providing comprehensive medical and community health services to the Carnarvon/Exmouth Health Service and remote communities.
This is not a junior doctor position. District Medical Officers are experienced clinicians who practise with a high level of clinical autonomy and decision-making responsibility and may supervise junior medical staff and other clinicians. Procedural District Medical Officers maintain regular procedural practice in areas such as anaesthetics, obstetrics and/or procedural medicine to support safe, accessible healthcare delivery in regional communities. You will provide high-quality, culturally responsive care across a broad clinical scope while contributing to service delivery, leadership, supervision, and continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Leading clinical teams and provide mentorship to junior medical staff.
- Responding to emergency presentations and provide acute inpatient care.
- Providing antenatal and postnatal care for women in the region via weekly antenatal clinics.
- Responding to obstetric emergencies and provide acute care in collaboration with the hospital team.
- Deliver safe and effective anaesthesia for surgical and emergency procedures.
- Manage pre-operative assessments, intra-operative care, and post-operative recovery.
- Provide sedation and pain management services as required.
- Delivering on-call duties depending on the role classification.
- Utilising telehealth technologies to extend care to remote areas.

The Successful Candidates Will:
- Be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- Hold Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, or the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine, or equivalent experience at the date of commencing duties.
- Possess formal post graduate qualification in anaesthetic, or obstetrics or equivalent extensive experience.
- A record of appropriate Emergency Department skill maintenance in the last triennium of completion of at least 1 of the following and evidence of continued professional development:
- ACLS (or equivalent)
- APLS (or equivalent)
- EMST (or equivalent)
- GCCA (or equivalent).
Note: Specialist International Medical Graduate (SIMG) applicants should ideally have either applied for Specialist Recognition with RACGP or ACRRM or be eligible for the AHPRA Expedited Specialist Pathway with an assessment outcome of Substantially Comparable and a supervision period of 12 months or less.
