We have a current vacancy for part time (job share) 0.5 FTE (40 hours) fixed term 5 year position.
Position Profile
This is an exceptional opportunity to join our esteemed team as Medical Co-Director for the Medical division.
Reporting to the Executive Director Perth Children’s Hospital and Neonatology (PCHN), you will leverage your professional expertise and extensive experience from acute settings to direct, evaluate, and manage services aligned with our strategic plan and guiding principles.
This is an extraordinary opportunity to steer the operation and sustainability of our medical services. You will play a key role in enabling positive change, shaping the future of service development, and strengthening innovative models of care.
Your ability to foster a highly collaborative and functional partnership with the Medical & Nurse Co-Directors will be key to success for both of your roles and enable you to navigate complex decision making and solve both joint problems, as well as those related to your respective craft groups. Together you will drive a cohesive service focused on delivery of high quality medical systems and practice and efficient service delivery, responsive to patient needs now and in the future.
You will play a vital leadership role in supporting Heads of Department across the medical specialities. Your capacity to facilitate growth, support others in reaching their full professional potential, and facilitate departments to advance clinical care will be highly valued.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing effective medical leadership in clinical governance, safety, quality improvement, strategic planning, optimal resource allocation and reform, in collaboration with the Medical & Nurse Co-Directors and Perth Children’s Hospital and Neonatology executive team
- Providing mentorship and support for Heads of Department and fostering collaboration between Clinicians and across Departments and Divisions for the safe and effective care of patients and families.
- Managing clinical demand, understanding workload and workforce pressures and issues, and furthering our aim to grow and foster our exceptional workforce of highly skilled professionals.
- Supporting the development of advance practice nursing roles, and of junior medical roles to build the next generation of professionals and support them in their growth, ensuring evidence-based practice and research drive clinical advancements.
- Ensuring safe and high-quality standards of clinical practice and the management of clinical and corporate risk, including coordination of education and training for medical staff to meet accreditation standards.
- Providing mentorship and support to staff, fostering a culture of patient safety and family-centred care.
- Ensuring business continuity management and emergency planning for the division.
- Continuing to develop collaborative relationships with key stakeholders across public and private sectors, universities, professional colleges, non-government agencies as well as health at the State and National Level, representing the service unit’s goals positively and effectively.
The ideal candidate will have prior experience in professional clinical leadership and in management of clinical services in a large complex acute health service.
Please note eligibility for registration with the Medical Board of Australia is a requirement for this role.

About our Medical Department:
Based at Perth Children’s Hospital, our dedicated teams provide state-wide tertiary/quaternary level specialist care to children aged 0–16 years encompassing inpatient units, outpatient clinics, and specialised services.
In collaboration with other medical specialties, nursing and allied health professionals, our services include diagnosis, treatment, and management for a wide spectrum of paediatric medical conditions, ranging from common illnesses to complex and rare diseases.
We are committed to advancing medical knowledge through research and education. And as a teaching institution, we are affiliated with medical schools and offer clinical placements for students, and training programs for prevocational and vocational trainees, fellows, and other healthcare professionals.
Our focus on child health and well-being extends beyond the hospital walls. We actively participate in community outreach programs, health education initiatives, and advocacy efforts.
