Fixed Term Full Time appointment commencing in September 2025 for 5 months, with the possibility of extension.

Hospital Site: Bunbury Hospital

Salary:  Registrar Year 1-7 $133,571 to $178,656 p.a.

*includes base salary $111,678 to $152,479 pa, professional development allowance $10,167 pa and 12% employer contributed superannuation.

Please note, employees who moves between different WA Department of Health entities will bring their entitlements (annual leave, long service leave, personal leave) with them. Taking a rural contract is not viewed as a break in service.

Appointment will be made based on recent and relevant skills and experience.

 

POSITION PROFILE

Applications are invited for the positions of Surgical Registrar within Bunbury Health Campus. The Surgical Department is a small but busy and offers a high quality, efficient surgical experience.  The Day Procedures and Theatres area provide consultant surgical and anaesthetic services for the specialties of general surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, ophthalmology, urology, orthopaedics, plastics, ENT, emergency and trauma.

The Surgical Ward currently has a bed capacity of 30 catering for those patients recuperation from a surgical procedure and a small day procedure and DP23 unit. Outpatient clinics are also run as part of this directorate. The successful registrars will be required to work with consultants in the efficient delivery of KPIs, surgical admissions and care, timely and efficient discharge planning and communications.

In conjunction with 2 SET General surgical trainees, Service registrars will participate in on-call, ward and theatre duties both on site and in other regional centres. Involvement in teaching, research and audit is encouraged in our department. Furthermore, Bunbury Hospital is recognised as a rural posting in general surgical SET application points in the future.

The successful candidates will be responsible for the clinical care of patients under the supervision of senior medical staff including:  attending to patients in order of medical urgency; taking history of full medical examinations of new admissions and arranging appropriate investigations and assisting with surgical procedures as required; managing medical conditions according to acceptable clinical standards under supervision of consultants; collaborating with other Medical, Nursing staff and multidisciplinary team members to facilitate patient management and communication with family, outside medical practitioners, and/or community services concerning patient management.

Applicants with at least 6 months surgical experience are preferred.
