Registrar – Trainee – Geriatrics
Please note this is for the 2026 Registrar Intake.
This is a Recruitment Pool for Fixed Term Full Time appointments for 6 or 12 months with the possibility of extension(s).
Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments may be made when similar vacancies occur. Appointments may be made from this pool until 28/02/2026.
Appointments for this position will not commence until 2026.
Position Profile:
This position provides a high-quality clinical service to older patients with acute and chronic medical conditions, geriatric syndromes, and frailty. Successful applicants will work under the supervision of a Geriatric Medicine Specialist and within a multidisciplinary team to address the medical needs of the patients and coordinate rehabilitation. They will conduct community assessments and provide teachings to junior doctors and allied health disciplines. Positions may involve working within Orthogeriatric, Perioperative and Rehabilitation in The Home services.
Applicants will be considered for positions across the Perth Metropolitan and Country Health Services participating in the Inter-Hospital Rotating Scheme (IHRS) including: Royal Perth Bentley Group (RPBG); Fiona Stanley Fremantle Hospitals Group (FSFHG); Sir Charles Gairdner Osborne Park Hospital Group (SCGOPHCG); Armadale Health Service, Joondalup Health Campus; SJOG Midland Public Hospital; Rockingham General Hospital; Bunbury Regional Hospital; and Albany Health Campus.

Royal Perth Hospital (RPH) is Perth’s inner city, tertiary adult hospital and part of the Royal Perth Bentley Group. Home to the State Major Adult Trauma Service, RPH offers tertiary-level emergency medicine, mental health, complex and elective surgical care, and specialist medical services. It is also a premier teaching hospital and contributes to innovation and excellence in medical research and patient care.
Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH) is one of Australia's leading teaching tertiary hospitals. Located at the Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre 4km from Perth city centre, SCGH provides a comprehensive range of clinical service including trauma, emergency and critical care, orthopaedics, general medicine, general surgery and cardiac care. It is home to WA's only comprehensive cancer centre - the largest cancer treatment centre in the State - and is the State's principal hospital for neurosurgery and liver transplants.
Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH) is a 783-bed tertiary hospital offering a range of health services including the State Rehabilitation Service, a comprehensive cancer centre, purpose-built mental health unit, maternity, paediatric and neonatal services, and the State Adult Burns Service. FSH also delivers specialised services such as heart and lung transplantations and hyperbaric medicine.

Application Instruction:
Current Geriatric Medicine IHRS Trainees will be eligible to extend your contract for 6-12 months subject to ongoing satisfactory progress in training, based upon satisfactory supervisor reports (to be submitted before 04/08/2025 to the selection panel - email: Tania.Pullella@health.wa.gov.au). Please note: A formal interview may be required.
New Applicants including those who are in the process of completing the FRACP clinical examination and have an interest in Geriatric Medicine (for rotations in 2026) or
- Service Registrars in an accredited Geriatric Medicine rotation or
- Dual trainees commencing Geriatric Medicine in 2026 or
- If you have had an interruption to training (> 12 months, excluding parental leave).
