Please note this is for the 2026 Registrar Trainee Respiratory Medicine intake commencing 2nd February 2026.

This is a Recruitment Pool for Fixed Term Full Time appointments for 6-12 months with the possibility of extension(s).

Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments may be made when similar vacancies occur. Appointments may be made from this pool until 08/11/2025.

Salary: MP Year 1-7 $145,318 - $194,401 p.a. (inclusive of base salary, 11.5% superannuation and professional development allowance)


Position Profile:
This advanced training rotation in respiratory medicine offers 1 – 2 years of core training in respiratory medicine. Eight established posts are available, four at Fiona Stanley Hospital, two at Royal Perth Hospital, one at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and one at SJOG Midland Hospital. One new post has been provisionally approved for advanced training for 2026 by the RACP at Joondalup Hospital. Extensive experience in general respiratory in-patient and out-patient services, lung cancer and subspecialty clinics is available at all five sites. The state TB service is based at Royal Perth Hospital and lung transplant service at Fiona Stanley Hospital.

We will be recruiting new advanced trainees into the rotation for 2026. Successful applicants undertaking two years of core training will generally spend one year in each of two sites. Preferences for hospitals will be taken into account. Allocations to hospitals will however be decided by the respiratory advanced training committee taking the needs of all trainees into account and the decision of the committee will be final. Progression to a second year of core training is dependent upon satisfactory mid-year review by the advanced training committee, based upon satisfactory supervisor reports.

Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH) is one of Australia's leading teaching tertiary hospitals. Located at the Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre 4km from Perth city centre, SCGH provides a comprehensive range of clinical service including trauma, emergency and critical care, orthopaedics, general medicine, general surgery and cardiac care.  SCGH the State's principal hospital for neurosurgery and liver transplants.

Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH) is a 783-bed tertiary hospital offering a range of health services including the State Rehabilitation Service, a comprehensive cancer centre, purpose-built mental health unit, maternity, paediatric and neonatal services, and the State Adult Burns Service. FSH also delivers specialised services such as heart and lung transplantations and hyperbaric medicine.

Royal Perth Hospital (RPH) Established in 1829 Royal Perth Hospital (RPH) is Western Australia’s longest-servicing hospital and renowned for contributing to innovation and excellence in medical research and patient care. We have one of the busiest Emergency Departments in Australia and the second biggest trauma workload in the country.

St John of God Midland Public Hospital is a 307-bed public hospital providing free hospital services for patients in Perth's east metropolitan and Wheatbelt regions. The hospital is located in the historic railway workshops precinct, close to the centre of Midland and adjacent to the passenger rail line. It is a division of St John of God Health Care, one of Australia’s leading health care providers.

Joondalup Health Campus is the largest health care facility in the northern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia. The 722-bed hospital has featured combined public and private services since 1996. The public and private hospitals share the emergency department, operating theatres and intensive care facilities, and the hospital's campus is now run by Ramsay Health Care.

As a premier teaching hospital, RPH has a number of joint appointments with the universities and built a global reputation in research and innovation. We have hosted many significant medical breakthroughs, and have an enviable global reputation that includes Nobel Prize-winning discoveries.
