This is a Fixed Term Full Time appointment for 12-months commencing in February 2027, with the possibility of extension(s).

 

POSITION PROFILE

As Trainee Registrar of Public Health, you will work with the Public Health Physician and Goldfields Public Health Unit to develop and support projects in disease control and immunisation.

A key function of this position will be to liaise with a variety of stakeholders including hospital clinicians, general practitioners, regional public health teams, sexual health teams and Aboriginal community-controlled health services whilst running screening programs and managing disease outbreaks.

You be will also be required to carry out epidemiological analysis, collaborate with health promotion and Local Government to respond to other public health risk and provide education and advice to general practice, other health staff and community-based organisations in relation to public health issues such as environmental health and local government public health planning.

The successful applicant will work with a dynamic multidisciplinary public health team under the guidance of the Public Health Physician for the Goldfields Region. Particular issues include Trachoma, sexually transmitted diseases, TB and strong links with the NG Lands.

The position is accredited for Advanced Public Health Training with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and has an active education program and strong culture of learning, research and academic achievement.

 

AREA PROFILE

REGION PROFILE

The Goldfields region of the WA Country Health Service covers the Goldfields-Esperance Region of Western Australia. The region is located in the south eastern corner of Western Australia and covers 770,488 sq km (including offshore islands). The WA Country Health Service Goldfields consists of two main health campuses located in Kalgoorlie & Esperance, and three smaller hospitals located in Laverton, Leonora and Norseman. The Goldfields is a culturally rich region with several Aboriginal communities spread out across the region, 16 distinct Aboriginal language groups and an Aboriginal population that represents 12.3 per cent of our total population, with 1 in 10 people, on average, identifying as Aboriginal – this in comparison to the state average of 3.6 per cent. The region supports a wide range of industry, including mining, agriculture, aquaculture and tourism. Mining is the predominant sector in the central and northern parts of the region, with a well-established agricultural sector in the south.

Kalgoorlie is a historic city with a significant mining community with excellent community services and educational facilities.

 

SALARY

 Registrar Year 1-7 $157,338 to $210,025 p.a. (*includes base salary $128,760 to $175,802, professional development allowance $11,721 and 12% employer contributed superannuation p.a.*)

Senior Registrar Year 1-2, $230,231 to $240,675 p.a. (*includes base salary $188,817 to $198,142, professional development allowance $16,747 and 12% employer contributed superannuation p.a.*)

Please note your level will be assessed based on your years of experience.

ELIGIBILITY TO APPLY 

To be successful you will need to hold AHPRA registration and be eligible to enrol as an Advanced Trainee in the Australian Faculty of Public Health Medicine.

You will also need to have completed a Master of Public Health Medicine and have at least three years post-graduate medical experience.

Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of cultural issues and social determinants particularly relating to Aboriginal Health is a must.
