After you apply

Once you’ve submitted your application, it will progress through several stages.

Not all applicants go through every step, and timing can vary depending on the role, health service and number of applications received.

This page explains what usually happens next and where to find more detail at each stage.

Application review

Our Approach to Recruitment

At our organisation, we take recruitment seriously.

Our process adheres to the standards set by the Public Sector Commission (PSC), specifically Commissioner’s Instruction 1: Employment Standard.

Here’s what you need to know

Our application and selection process is thorough.

We apply minimum standards of merit, equity, and probity to fill vacancies.

We evaluate applicant’s skills, knowledge, and abilities to see if they match the requirements of the job.

Our approach is designed to be fair and straightforward.

We treat all applicants equally by consistently applying the rules.

Make sure to provide sufficient information in your application by the closing date.

Applications that don’t meet this requirement will not progress.

Selection panels

A panel of experts will be convened to evaluate applicant suitability.

The panel carefully evaluate your application against the specified selection criteria and supporting documents including your CV and cover letter.

Panel Recommendations

If your application meets the criteria, you will be recommended for the suitable pool or position. This process is competitive and merit-based, focusing on the skills, knowledge, and abilities relevant to the work requirements and position outcomes.

Interviews: What You Need to Know

Some employers may conduct interviews as part of their assessment process. If you’re selected for an interview:

You’ll receive an email directly from the employer with interview details.

Make sure to check your email regularly.

You’ll need to reply to the interview invitation promptly.

Confirm your availability and any preferences.

Be prepared for potential interview questions.

Ensure you have access to your emails during the assessment period.

Referee checks

Your referees may be contacted after the application period is closed to independently verify information you provided in your application. This is used by the selection panel during their review.

Ensuring accurate and complete details for your referees is crucial. Make sure your referees are well informed and ready to support your application effectively.

Notification of Panel Assessment Outcome

After the assessment process concludes, all applicants will be notified by email.

For pools, applicants who are assessed as Suitable are added to the recruitment pool and will receive email notifications.

If your application is not deemed suitable, you will also receive an email notification.

Seeking Feedback

Your notification letter will provide details on whom you can contact for feedback regarding your application or the selection process, should you wish to seek further information.

Breach Period

All recruitments are subject to a breach period in accordance with the Western Australian public sector regulations. Your notification letter will outline the procedure if you believe that the minimum Standards of merit, equity and probity were not complied with during the assessment process.

Offers

Congratulations on receiving your offer!

Employers will make offers to suitable applicants. Your offer email will contain information about the employing hospital, contract duration and dates, and employment type. All offers will be sent to the email address in your MedCareersWA account, and you can check the status of your offer and respond to offers online.

  • Log in to your MedCareersWA account. If you’ve forgotten your password, use the ‘Forgotten Password’ link to reset it.
  • Go to the yellow notification bar at the top of the screen and select ‘View Offer’.
  • Open and carefully review your offer documents before making a decision.
  • Close the documents and return to the previous screen.
  • Select ‘I accept’ if you wish to accept the offer or decline if you do not.

Should you require further information or have any queries, contact the recruitment team listed in your email or offer letter.

The date and time your offer will expire will be stated within the offer notification email. This is usually four business days. If you fail to respond within this time, your offer may be considered forfeited. In some recruitments your application will return to the recruitment pool.

Next Steps

Keep a close eye on your email, as your employing health service will contact you regarding your contract and provide information about the onboarding process.

Once you’ve accepted the offer and signed the contract, you’ll be bound by a contractual agreement between yourself and the employing hospital or health service.

If you have accepted your offer but no longer wish to proceed, kindly reach out to the Medical Administration team listed in your offer letter—they’re here to help.
