EXPRESSION OF INTEREST -  REGISTRAR - EMERGENCY MEDICINE (RACGP/ACRRM or Service)

Northam Hospital is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) from Emergency Medicine Registrars, either Service, RACGP or ACRRM, for Fixed Term Full Time appointments for 6 or 12 months at 80 hours per fortnight, with the possibility of extension(s) to commence in August 2026.

In this position you will have excellent exposure to a diversity of emergency presentations and procedures whilst working within a supportive medium-sized mixed adult and paediatric department consisting of FACEMs, highly experienced rural hospitalists as well as junior medical officers seconded from metropolitan hospitals. To be successful you will need to hold AHPRA registration and be able to demonstrate a minimum of six months experience in Emergency Medicine at registrar level. Time contribution from Intensive Care Medicine, Anaesthetics or Acute Medicine will be considered. This role will be both challenging and rewarding and you will develop valuable skills that only come from working in a rural ED.

This position is accredited with:

  1. ACRRM (AST in Emergency Medicine)
  2. RACGP (Core EMT & Extended Skills in EM)
  3. CICM for ED time component

Northam is an attractive rural town located 100km from the Perth CBD in the picturesque Avon Valley. Northam Health Service is the main hub hospital in the Wheatbelt region which is home to approximately 70 000 people and close-knit-farming communities. In addition to the ED, Northam Hospital has a 38-bed inpatient unit, a rehabilitation unit, hospice, a midwifery led birthing service, surgical services, onsite dialysis, an oncology unit and regular visiting specialists. The ED has approximately 16 000 attendances per annum.

Benefits of working at Northam ED include:

  • a broad exposure to issues inherent in rural medical practice
  • a good balance of adequate levels of supervision and opportunity to work autonomously to encourage clinical leadership and foster independent practice
  • opportunity to be involved in the education of medical students from the rural clinical school and junior medical officers
  • option to work 1 FTE wholly at Northam Health Service or split with SJOG Midland Hospital (for example, 0.5 at each site)
  • 5 hours of paid non-clinical time per week to attend the comprehensive registrar education program at SJOG Midland Hospital
  • subsidised accommodation *conditions apply
