Registrar - Trainee - Clinical Immunology

Please note this is for the 2026 Registrar Intake.

This is a Recruitment Pool for Fixed Term Full-Time or Part-Time clinical and/or laboratory positions with the possibility of extension(s), based on service needs and applicant suitability.

Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments may be made when similar vacancies occur. Appointments may be made from this pool until 31/12/2025.

Appointments for this position will not commence until 2026.

Salary: MP Year 1-7 $145,318 - $194,401 p.a. (inclusive of base salary, 11.5% superannuation and professional development allowance)


Position Profile:
Advanced trainee registrars in Immunology and Immunopathology are selected and deployed via a state-wide scheme. The participating hospitals are Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Royal Perth Hospital, Fiona Stanley Hospital and Perth Children’s Hospital, as well as the related PathWest. Over the 3–4 year training programme, trainees rotate to all or most of the participating sites. This enables trainees to experience the whole spectrum of the specialty. It is tailored as much as possible to individual training needs.

There are two training pathways in Clinical Immunology and Allergy which can be undertaken by adult or paediatric physician trainees after successful completion of basic training and the FRACP clinical:

  • FRACP training in Clinical Immunology and Allergy this is a three-year training program in Clinical Immunology & Allergy leading to fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP). Completion of this program will enable an adult physician or paediatrician to practice as a clinical immunologist and allergist in a community private practice and/or hospital setting; and
  • Combined FRACP and FRCPA in Clinical Immunology, Allergy and Immunopathology. This is a four-year training program, which includes laboratory training in diagnostic Immunopathology leading to fellowship of both the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (FRACP FRCPA).

Both training pathways can also include the option of pursuing a higher degree (PhD, MPH, etc) during or following advanced training.

Area Profiles:
Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH)
 is one of Australia's leading teaching tertiary hospitals. Located at the Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre 4km from Perth city centre, SCGH provides a comprehensive range of clinical service including trauma, emergency and critical care, orthopaedics, general medicine, general surgery and cardiac care. It is home to WA's only comprehensive cancer centre - the largest cancer treatment centre in the State - and is the State's principal hospital for neurosurgery and liver transplants.

Royal Perth Hospital (RPH) is a 450-bed tertiary hospital focused on providing a range of complex and elective surgeries for adults. Home to the State major adult trauma centre, RPH offers tertiary-level emergency medicine, mental health and specialist medical services. It is also a premier teaching hospital and contribute to innovation and excellence in medical research and patient care.

Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH) is a 783-bed tertiary hospital offering a range of health services including the State rehabilitation service, a comprehensive cancer centre, purpose-built mental health unit, maternity, paediatric and neonatal services, and the State adult burns service. FSH is the site of the state allogeneic transplant centre and haemophilia unit.

PathWest Laboratory Medicine WA is committed to providing a broad range of routine, complex and rare tests, offering round-the-clock testing for the entire WA community. PathWest has an active teaching program and is dedicated to excellence and innovation in pathology testing, teaching and research.
