Salary applicable to locations South of the 26° Parrallel 

Trainee Psychiatrist Year 1-7 $175,576 to $235,046 p.a.pro rata 

Salary applicable to locations North of the 26° Parrallel 

Registrar Year 3 $200,773 p.a. pro rata 

HSMP Year 1-6 $301,700 to $378,680 p.a. pro rata 

All salaries are inclusive of base salary, professional development allowance and 12% superannuation. Salary rates are effective as of 3 September 2026

This Recruitment Pool is for Full time or Part Time Fixed Term appointments for existing RANZCP Trainees seeking to transfer to the RPTWA program. Appointments for up to 5 years (dependent on RANZCP training stage), with the possibility of extension.  

Applicants will be assessed to determine the classification level in accordance with employment requirements. Successful applicants will be offered a length of training contract to align with training requirements. 

This is an active ‘open-ended’ recruitment pool, and as such the following should be noted:  

  • The panel will monitor this recruitment pool for applications and will assess on a regular basis.  

  • Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments may be made when similar vacancies occur.  

  • Appointments may be made from this pool until 30/06/2027.

The Rural Psychiatry Training WA (RPTWA) program is overseen by the Western Australia Psychiatry Training Committee, in accordance with the requirements for obtaining Fellowship of the Royal Australian New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP).  Successful applicants will work as an integral part of the multidisciplinary and medical teams. Under the supervision of a Consultant Psychiatrist, this position provides assessment and management for clients requiring specialist psychiatric care.  

To be eligible for a training position at the time of application you must have: 

  1. Successful completion of a medical degree
  2. Current unrestricted General Registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) 
  3. Current registration as trainee in the RANZCP Fellowship Program  

The assessment of applicants will be based on the following: 

Essential Criteria 

  1. Eligible for registration as a Medical Practitioner.
  2. Eligible for admission to Training of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists for basic training (stages 1-3).
  3. Demonstrated desire to obtain knowledge of/and experience in biological and psychotherapeutic interventions.
  4. Effective communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills with a multidisciplinary interest.
  5. Demonstrated analytical ability.
  6. Highly developed report writing and policy formulation skills.
  7. Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team.
  8. Demonstrated computer skills to enable management of medical and patient records, navigation of online policy access, internal communication and completing online learning resources.
  9. Eligible for / or in possession of a current C or C-A Class drivers licence. 

Desirable Criteria 

  1. Understanding of the issues around providing Mental Health services with a rural community, including provision of culturally appropriate services to indigenous families and communities.
  2. Knowledge of the Western Australian Mental Health Act 2014 and other related legislation.
  3. Understanding of and experience of working within RANZCP policies and guidelines.
  4. Relevant training or experience in education.
  5. Current knowledge and commitment to Equal Opportunity in all aspects of employment and service delivery.
