Fellow Ophthalmic Surgery (Anterior Segment)

This is a Recruitment Pool for Fixed Term Full Time appointments for 12 months with the possibility of extension(s).

Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments may be made when similar vacancies occur. Appointments may be made from this pool until 30/06/2026.


Position Profile: 
This is a 12-month fellowship in Anterior Segment Ophthalmic Surgery with the Department of Ophthalmology based at Fremantle Hospital.

This busy department provides a comprehensive ophthalmic service to South Metropolitan Perth and rural Western Australia. It consists of 15 part time consultants providing subspecialty services in medical and surgical cornea, medical and surgical glaucoma, oculoplastic surgery, uveitis, neuro-ophthalmology, medical and surgical retina.

The position is suited to a senior trainee registrar who has completed or in the process of completing his or her primary specialty training in ophthalmology. Prior Anterior Segment surgical experience is not essential, but competency in cataract & pterygium surgery is essential. The successful applicant will be responsible for undertaking general ophthalmological care of inpatients and outpatients, with particular emphasis on corneal and oculoplastic/orbital disease. Attendance in theatre and clinics will be as per the department timetable and out of hours surgeries may be required for emergency cases. Inclusion in the combined RPH/FH ophthalmology after hours on-call roster. In addition to this you will be required to supervise ophthalmology trainees, service registrars and RMOs including formal and informal teaching under the direction of the ophthalmology HOS. The weekly timetable consists of 2-3 supervised theatre sessions, 2-3 consultant supervised clinics, fortnightly accelerated crosslinking clinics / minor procedures and general clinics.
