About the Command Centre
The WACHS Command Centre comprises centralised acute virtual care, operational services, and organisational strategies to support service delivery across WACHS. The Command Centre supports WACHS sites clinically and operationally, ensures coordinated and integrated incident response and management, which enables regional services to consistently deliver innovative, safe, and quality care to our communities.
The Command Centre brings a number of services together in a 24/7 ‘virtual’ hub. Using high-definition audio-visual and advanced information and communication technologies, the WACHS Command Centre provides a one‐stop shop for country clinicians to access a range of clinical expertise supporting acute emergency and inpatient care, including access to emergency physicians, mental health specialists, palliative care specialists and midwives. The Acute Patient Transfer Coordination (APTC) stream facilitates coordinated safe, timely and efficient patient retrievals to, from and between country and metropolitan hospitals for country patients.
About The Role
As an emergency consultant for the Command Centre’s Emergency Telehealth Service (ETS) stream, you will be joining a dynamic team of clinicians based in Australia and other parts of the world in providing a 24/7 emergency service to regional and remote hospitals and clinics in Western Australia, the world’s largest health jurisdiction.
Patients will be referred for consultation from clinicians located at the patient’s bedside who will assist in their care. These are mostly nurses but also include nurse practitioners and regionally based medical practitioners who require assistance with patient care, decision making and disposition.
You will be coordinating care, referral and disposition of patients with clinicians from other Command Centre Streams such as Mental Health, Maternity, and APTC, as well as clinicians in regional resource centres and metropolitan hospitals.
The role demands a high degree of clinical skill, teamwork, flexibility and risk management in managing patients in challenging environments and sometimes difficult logistical situations.
There is great opportunity for flexible work hours and working from home.
There are opportunities to be involved in the ongoing development of this highly innovative service and to be involved in research.
