About The Role:
Western Australia Country Health Service (WACHS) is actively recruiting a variety of Consultant Psychiatrists with a wealth of professional expertise across various psychiatric specialties including, general adult, community, old age, child and adolescent, and addiction psychiatry. We are especially seeking candidates who are experienced in delivering comprehensive patient care across a variety of settings, including both hospital and community environments.
About The Pool:
Joining the Consultant Psychiatry pool means submitting one application to be considered for multiple positions across WACHS throughout its duration. You can specify your preferred locations as listed below:
- Goldfields region – Kalgoorlie
- Great Southern – Albany
- Kimberley - Broome
- South West - Bunbury
- Midwest - Geraldton
- Wheatbelt - Wheatbelt
- Pilbara – Port Hedland and Karratha
Applications submitted via this pool will be reviewed periodically. After the assessment of the applications, the Medical Recruitment Team will contact you to discuss opportunities tailored to you and assist you throughout the recruitment process. Our goal is to simplify and streamline your entry into WACHS. If you are not ready to start immediately, your application can be accepted and reviewed to align with your plans. Appointments from this pool are available until 30/09/2026.
To Be Eligible to Apply:
Applicants who are eligible to apply to this pool are medical Practitioners who;
- Hold Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry (RANZCP)
- RANZCP trainee who are in thier penulitmate year of training and have completed all training requirements.
- Applicants from the United Kingdon (UK) or Ireland eligible for the Medical Board of Australia Expedited Specialist Pathway. Applicants must possess;
- Confirmation of Specialist training from the General Medical Council (GMC)
- Membership of the UK Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCPsych)
- Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT)

- Applicants from United Kingdon (UK) or Ireland eligible for the RANZCCP Accelerated Pathway. Applicants must;
- Hold the MRCPsych (UK) as well as CCT/CCST
- Have AMC primary source verification
- Intend to live and work in Australia permanently

Important to note, to be eligible for a permanent appointment to the Western Australian public sector, it is essential that you are an Australian citizen or hold permanent residency status in Australia.
Remuneration:
The advertised salary range is based on classifications under the WA Health System – Medical Practitioners AMA Industrial Agreement 2024. Classification and level are determined by factors including qualifications and experience.
*Provisions to provide a contract commensurate to relevant clinical experience as a Consultant when a letter from the assessing body (Medical Board of Australia or RANZCP) is provided assessing the medical practitioner as Substantially Comparable.
* Provisions to provide a District Medical Officer Year 1 or Senior Medical Practitioner Year 1 contract when a letter from the assessing body (Medical Board of Australia or relevant specialist college) is provided assessing the medical practitioner as Partially Comparable.
*Medical Practitioners on casual contracts may be entitled to professional development allowance providing you don’t hold a contract with another WA Health entity.

EC1 & EC2) Provide a comprehensive summary of your qualifications and training. If you have obtained your qualifications or completed training outside of Australia, provide detailed information on the steps you have taken to become a registered medical practitioner in Australia.
EC3) Provide a detailed explanation and example of your demonstrated clinical skills and experience in adult and/or child and adolescent mental health.
EC4) Provide a brief explanation and example of your effective communication and interpersonal skills, including experience working in a multidisciplinary environment.
EC5) Experience working in a rural based health setting and/or community-based mental health service providing services to clients from a variety of cultural and ethnic groups.
- A Comprehensive CV: an up-to-date CV that clearly outlines your experience in chronological order. Ensuring that the duration of employment in each role and any gaps in service are easily identified and explained. This will assist to better understand your career progression and the breath of your professional experience.
Applications from medical practitioners who hold fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry and RANZCP trainees who are in their penultimate year of training and have completed all their training requirements, are strongly encouraged.
