Director Emergency Medicine WACHS
WA Country Health Service (WACHS) is seeking a strong and experienced leader for the position of Director Emergency Medicine to join the Clinical Excellence and Medical Services directorate.
Location Negotiable.
This is a sessional position for up to 5 years at 0.20FTE (4 sessions per fortnight*) with the possibility of extension (s).
Sessional Year 1- 9: $790.09 - $1,003.40*
The above salary is as per WA Health System Medical Practitioners AMA Industrial Agreement 2024 (inclusive of base salary, 12% superannuation, and PD allowance). This is subject to the assessment of clinical skills and years of practice. *One session is equal to 4 hours.

About The Role
WACHS is seeking an exceptional Director of Emergency Medicine to lead and advance our specialised emergency medical services across WA Country Health Services. In this pivotal role, you will provide strategic clinical leadership, drive excellence in emergency care, and champion innovation to continually enhance service delivery. Working in partnership with the Executive Directors Clinical Excellence and Medical Services as well as the Co-Director of Emergency Medicine, you will guide clinical improvement initiatives, strengthen emergency care pathways, and support a culture of high-quality, patient centred practice within WACHS.
Core responsibilities include:
- Lead the WACHS Clinical Network for Emergency Medicine, driving high quality clinical practice and strategic direction across the service.
- Provide expert advice to the WACHS Board, Executive and regional teams on key issues impacting Emergency Medicine.
- Represent WACHS on relevant committees, advisory groups and strategic projects at regional and state levels.
- Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of WACHS policies and guidelines specific to Emergency Medicine.
- Support the design, review and improvement of models of care to ensure they remain contemporary, effective and aligned with service needs.
- Advise on and contribute to workforce planning and development initiatives for the specialty.
The Successful Candidates Will possess:
- Specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Fellowship of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine.
- Extensive knowledge, clinical experience, and skills in Emergency Medicine.
- Solid leadership skills including interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong strategic planning and policy formulation skills.
