Resident Medical Officer - Emergency Medicine

This is a Recruitment Pool for Fixed Term Full Time and Fixed Term Part Time appointments for 6-12 months with the possibility of extension(s).

Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments may be made when similar vacancies occur. Appointments may be made from this pool until 19/06/2026.

Position Profile:
Since opening in early February 2015, FSH Emergency Department has developed into a high functioning unit that is the busiest ED in the state, and one of the busiest in Australasia. It has a diverse case mix including toxicology, complex medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, burns, cardiothoracic and transplant medicine. Overall patient complexity is high, with good exposure to acutely unwell, high priority patients.

The ED has 85 beds including a 15-bed resuscitation area and a separate 15 bed paediatric triage and treatment area. The department saw 110,000 presentations in the last year, with 25 per cent of those being paediatric. As such, this department provides an excellent opportunity for paediatric skill development.

FSH ED prides itself on it’s supportive learning environment, with consistent positive feedback from our junior staff regarding learning opportunities and supportive staff.

The ED RMO position is an opportunity for RMOs interested in a prolonged ED term who are enthusiastic to enhance their skills in the field of Emergency Medicine. The RMO will be supported in completing an audit or quality improvement project with dedicated non-clinical time allocated for this. Regular high quality ED-specific teaching is rostered.

The position is ideal for RMOs interested in careers in critical care, rural medicine and general practice.

There are opportunities for interested RMOs to complete ACEMs Foundational Emergency Medicine Training Programme.

Candidates interested in 12-month positions may be rotated to terms at peripheral sites of Rockingham or Peel ED. This will enhance the experience of a year in ED, adding exposure to a second site, with learning opportunities from different Senior staff, patient groups, pathologies and hospital systems
